Hawaii Department of Health monitoring new variants of COVID-19

The Hawaii Department of Health is monitoring three new variants of COVID-19 from the U.S. and abroad. Some have been detected in Hawai’i, and observed to be more transmissible than previous variants. Although all government mask mandates have been lifted, the Hawaii Department of Health still recommends mask wearing for elders, people who are immunocompromised and those at high risk of serious illness. The DOH also recommends indoor masks in crowded settings and public areas.
