The County of Maui Office of Recovery invites the community to provide input on the way streets in the commercial core of Lahaina town, including Front Street, are rebuilt during a series of design workshops and open houses slated for June 24-26, 2025.
The series will focus on street connectivity and mobility in the area from Baker Street to Prison Street, and from the shoreline to Honoapiʻilani Highway, with emphasis on how streets in the area will be rebuilt to accommodate all users, whether walking, biking, in a wheelchair, riding the bus, driving and parking a car, or making deliveries.
The events are as follows:
Tuesday, June 24, 1-5 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 25, 1-3:30 p.m.: Streets Workshops
Wednesday, June 25, 4-7 p.m.: Pau Hana Open House
Thursday, June 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30, followed by the presentation at 6 and open house until 7:30 p.m.): Pau Hana Open House and Closing Presentation
A follow-up community event will be held in Fall 2025, during which the project team will present designs that have been refined using the input gathered from the community and stakeholders.
This series of events are part of the Rebuild Lahaina Plan, one of the 40 projects in the Lahaina Long-Term Recovery Plan (LTRP). During the neighborhood workshops held last year that shaped the LTRP, the County heard the community’s priorities, chief among them the goal of maintaining Lahaina’s unique character while also building back safer, more resilient and supporting the local community. The June events will now help guide how the County will rebuild in the commercial area with those priorities in mind.
“Under current County street and zoning codes, the Lahaina Town that we all remember and love can’t be rebuilt,” Office of Recovery Administrator John Smith said. “The input gathered at these workshops will help us create a plan built on the community’s vision and guide decisions on how we adjust those codes to fit Lahaina.”
