The Maui Economic Recovery Commission (ERC) is a dynamic coalition of community leaders dedicated to shaping Maui's economic future following the 2023 fires. With Phase I launched in January 2024 and running through September, the ERC brought together influential stakeholders from various sectors to collaborate and uplift Maui's recovery efforts. For Phase II, the ERCis refining and moving projects towards implementation. The ERC continues to foster inclusivity and respond to community needs and challenges while generating recommendations that drive economic resurgence and empower local residents.
The Maui ERC serves as the joint State-County Economic Recovery Support Function in the National Disaster Recovery Framework, and from Phase I, comprised 100+ cross-sector members and fire survivors focused on building foundations and taking action. Sponsored by the State of Hawai'i Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) in Phase I, the Commission was co-chaired by DBEDT Director Jimmy Tokioka and County of Maui Office of Liquor Control Director Layne Silva, with facilitation by One Shared Future and Maui-based SR Partners. In Phase II, Chair Silva is continuing to lead the Commission, with continued facilitation and project design and management by SR Partners.
The ERC is now in Phase II and project design and pre-implementation, having conducted collaborative meetings from January through September 2024 involving 115 participants. The ERC is currently working to advance 11 community-identified projects in a dynamic fashion that complement and amplify the County's long-term recovery initiatives with support from diverse stakeholders.
The ERC's mission centers on three key objectives:
We welcome your partnership—whether through time, insight, collaboration, or funding—to amplify the power of collective action. Let’s rebuild Maui—together!
The ERC collaboratively uplifts Maui through recommendations, proposals, and projects designed to maximize federal funding and community support. The Commission serves as a bridge between sectors, ensuring recovery efforts are comprehensive, community-driven, and sustainable, representing a unique model of collaborative governance that honors both immediate needs and long-term economic vision.
For Supporters & Funders Whether you're a private foundation, government agency, or individual philanthropist, your investment in these projects creates lasting impact. Each dollar contributed multiplies through community partnerships and leverages additional federal and state funding opportunities.
For Organizations & Partners Join our network of 100+ member organizations. Your expertise, resources, and commitment help turn these projects from concepts into community transformations. Together, we amplify impact across all sectors.
For Community Members Your voice matters. These projects succeed when they reflect genuine community needs and values. Stay engaged, share your insights, and help shape the future of Maui's economic landscape.
